Whether they’re driving across the state or just down the road, a safe, reliable car is one of the best gifts you can give your college-bound kid.

As move-in day approaches, most parents are focused on bedding, meal plans, and class schedules—but don’t forget about the car that’s going to carry them through the next big chapter.

Before you hand over the keys and the tearful goodbye hug, take time to make sure their vehicle is ready for the road.

âś… What You Can Do at Home (No Tools Required)

Here are a few simple things parents can check themselves before the big send-off:

  • Look at tire tread depth (use the penny test!)
  • Top off washer fluid and check for low levels of coolant or oil
  • Test the battery terminals for corrosion (a little green fuzz = not great)
  • Check for burnt out bulbs—brake lights, blinkers, headlights
  • Listen for squeaks, clicks, or grinding that wasn’t there last semester

These quick checks don’t take long, but they can tell you a lot.

👨🔧 What We’ll Take Care Of at CarLife

Let us handle the deeper diagnostics, safety checks, and peace-of-mind maintenance before your student hits the highway. At CarLife, we’ll:

  • âś… Perform a full digital inspection with photos and notes
  • âś… Check brakes, belts, hoses, battery health & fluids
  • âś… Inspect tires and alignment (especially after a summer of driving)
  • âś… Handle oil changes, filter replacements, and minor repairs
  • âś… Send all info directly to you, the parent—wherever you are

We’ll even call you for approval before any repairs, take payment over the phone, and make sure your student is never caught off guard.

đź›» Bonus: We Offer Shuttle Rides, Too

If your kiddo’s staying local (ASU, GCU, MCC), we’ve got them covered:

  • Local shuttle rides to/from school or dorm
  • Easy drop-off and pick-up
  • Friendly techs who speak fluent “college kid”

💡 Pro Tip: Don’t Wait Until Move-In Week

The earlier you bring the vehicle in, the more time we have to address anything that might need attention—before it becomes urgent.
