To honor our Jeep owners and customers, here are a few off-road trails within reasonable driving distance from Phoenix that will bring you great 4×4 outdoor fun.
Apache Trail – This 40-mile trail is Northeast of Phoenix located between Apache Junction and Theodore Roosevelt Lake. A fairly easy ride, the first part of the trail is paved but it is mostly dirt. Offering blind curves and tight switchbacks near cliff edges, the Apache Trail will require some focus in critical areas. Expect to take up to three hours to do this ride and make sure you bring plenty of water.
Mt. Ord Lookout – South of Payson and Northeast of Phoenix, this day trip offers a great Jeep trail with an opportunity to hike to the forest service lookout tower that marks this scenic spot. This easy to moderate 12-mile trail has an elevation change of 3,256 feet to 6,747 feet. If you choose to hike to the lookout tower, you will experience vistas from 7,128 feet. Give yourself at least a few hours on this trail to include the hike and sightseeing.
Sunflower Mine Trail – Just Northeast of the town of Sunflower, you can experience a 20-mile loop through the beautiful mountains near Payson. The trail starts off easy as you make your way toward the mine and becomes more challenging and difficult as you pass it and continue on the loop. Allow yourself all day to do this 20-mile adventure.
